after spending the majority of the day in between lighting and hardware stores in a desperate attempt to find cheap UV lights Anna & myself turn up to the bookshop around 7 geared with a crappy black light bulb, 300 meters of string and whats left of a cask of merlot.
The light does sort of work- lighting around 30cm in front of it but its lost in the shop and struggles to combat the light coming in from the street. Nevertheless we set it up in the darkest corner and string four points outward towards the window frame. I then set myself up at the smaller end knotting the string into dense lines while Anna with the height advantage tackles the undense(?) indense(?)... sparser end.
we work towards each other, struggling with one pair of kids safety scissors between us and as the night drags on the structure becomes slightly more organic and less accurate then I'm used to- i fret the works too subtle to be viewed from outside but when we shut the doors for the night the string picks up in the spotlight and we contently head off blissfully ignorant of leaving most of our belonging locked outside in the car park (see below post)
Hello, Welcome to the virtual realm of our Site Fiction project. We are an artist collective experimenting in Perth city to activate empty or disused spaces, and engaging and interacting with any potential audience (you!). We are currently inhabiting the former Arcane Bookshop (212 William St Perth) until 3rd October. During this we will be undertaking a series of performances in the shop front. This blog will be regularly updated with STUFF, so stay tuned!
